HOPEfest

I usually post about the kids and our week, but I have a topic that I need your help with!

I"m organizing our second annual HOPEfest. Last year we were able to raise approx. $18,500 to help provide treatment to children with progressive infantile scoliosis at Children's Hospital in Chicago, New York and Sydney Australia! This years HOPEfest will enable ISOP and Dr. Mehta to conduct more training seminars throughout the U.S. and focus on the pediatric communities and will assist in our Global Outreach Program to eradicate progressive infantile scoliosis worldwide!

I am sure most of you are familiar with our son, Evan's journey with progressive infantile scoliosis. If not, let me recap very briefly.
Evan was daignosed at 3 months old with progressive infantile scoliosis and we were given many options for treatment including to "wait and see" if the curve progressed, bracing, surgeries, etc. However, we couldn't find a doctor, even at reputable hospitals that had experience successfully treating his condition. All of these doctors had not seen a case so bad, in such a little baby.
If left untreated, Evan's lungs and heart function would have been comprimised.
I feel blessed to say that we were led to The Infantile Scoliosis Outreach Program in one of my many internet searches and thus were informed about early treatment with plaster of paris jackets/casts that was a non-invasive way to treat Evan w/o the need for surgery.
We found a doctor in Erie, PA at Shriner's Hospital for Children. This was out of our local area and we were told that the Shriner's in Galax, would likely not be able to help, however, the men met and decided to help us out with travel expenses.
After 8 casts, Evan is now straight! Early treatment works.
Thus, HOPEfest was born as a way to give back just a portion of what was given to us- HOPE.

HOPEfest will take place October 11th at 6:30 PM at the Fairview Ruritan Club in Galax, VA.
You can find more information at : www.infantilescoliosis.org or email me at: jvsd@embarqmail.com to find out how you can help.
